A new paper titled: “A General Model for the Longevity of Super-Hydrophobic Surfaces in Under-Saturated, Stationary Liquid” was published in Journal of Heat Transfer. This work is supported by ONR and NSF.
Ali Nosrati and Shabnam Mohammadshahi are new PhD students, and Jordan Breveleri is an undergraduate student. Welcome!
Dr. Ling and Dr. Raessi received 2022 UMassD Seed funding for the project: “Sustainable Drag Reduction in Turbulent Flows over Super-Hydrophobic Surface by Gas Injection”. Congratulations!
Congratulations Christina on winning a small research grant from the Office of Undergraduate Research at UMassD! This grant will support Christina to conduct research in Ling Lab in Spring 2022.
The Line Lab welcomes new member Christina Hart. Christina joined us as a undergraduate student in Mechanical Engineering. Welcome on board!
The Ling Lab welcomes Md Elius! Elius joined us as a master student in Mechanical Engineering. Welcome on board!
A new paper was published in Applied Optics entitled: “Improving axial localization of weak phase particles in digital in-line holography”. This work is supported by Office of Naval Research.
The Ling Lab has two M.S. or Ph.D. positions available starting Fall 2021. This position is to conduct an experimental investigation of interactions between super-hydrophobic surface, turbulent flow, and marine microorganisms. The research will closely collaborate with material scientists and biologists, and aims to develop novel surfaces for applications in Ocean Engineering and Marine Transportation. The ideal candidate is expected to have a strong background in fluid mechanics and optical measurement technology. Experience in CAD drawing, Particle Imaging Velocimetry (PIV), and image analysis are preferred. Applicants with a master’s degree are preferable.
Interested individuals should send the following documents as one PDF file to Prof. Hangjian Ling at firstname.lastname@example.org by Jan 15, 2021. Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until filled.
- 1-page cover letter summarizing research experience and interests;
- A detailed CV (including GPA and publications);
- TOEFL (for international applicant) and GRE scores;
- Copy of undergraduate and graduate transcripts;
- Name and contact information of three references.
